This course offers students the opportunity to extend their skills and be introduced to a range of more advanced techniques and processes, e.g. stone setting, chain making, wire forming, etching and catches, enabling more complex and/or refined pieces to be made.

Course aim

To extend and develop your jewellery making skills to enable you to confidently create well constructed and finished pieces of your own design.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Select, name and use a broader range of equipment correctly and safely.
  • Identify the processes and process order required to produce an original piece of jewellery.
  • To complete a jewellery project piece at a suitably appropriate and achievable level.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • A notebook/sketchbook to record processes and your own ideas can be useful. For safety, please wear shoes which fully cover your feet (not open toed) and if you have long hair please bring a hairband to tie it back.
