Enjoy various activities to promote confidence in speaking French in a supportive atmosphere and extend knowledge of the country through its customs, opinions and traditions. Students will build vocabulary through games and puzzles, build upon knowledge of structure and grammar of language through written exercises, and increase aural comprehension.

Course aim

To develop each learner’s spoken and written French through interactive and enjoyable activities To assist students to listen and understand french spoken at normal speed To develop a knowledge of current French life and thinking

Who is the course for?

- This course is for improvers - This course is for all students who wish to improve and extend their knowledge of French both spoken and written.

What topics will this course cover

- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning - You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

How will I know I'm making progress?

- Your tutor will ensure you are making progress towards your learning goals through a range of methods appropriate to you and the course - A range of both formal and informal assessment and feedback methods will be used which may include quizzes, question and answer, short tasks and discussion - You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor - You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning - A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress - There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

- A good dictionary e.g. Collins A4 loose leaf folder and plastic wallets to hold handouts file paper, pens Verb tables (optional)

Reading and information sources

- Any reading of or listening to the French language will be helpful.

What could the course lead to?

- Progress to another WEA course - Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
