A friendly, creative watercolour course where we will tackle a variety of techniques and different subjects. Watercolour is a fabulous flowing medium of jewel-like colours and transparent glazes. As well as exploring colour mixing and the importance of tonal values we will experiment with a variety of techniques for achieving texture, pattern and atmosphere. No Session 29/05/2018
Course aim
To increase students ability and enjoyment of watercolour painting through exploring a wide range of subject matter and techniques.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This is a mixed ability group, where some students are relatively new to watercolour and others quite experienced.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Effective use of complementary colour pairs.
- Effective use of tonal values (water to pigment ratio)
- Create a pleasing composition (simplifying and use of thirds)
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
- The tutor will do short demonstration to show specific techniques.
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- There will be plenty of informal verbal feedback about the individual paintings being worked on each week. Including any work that students choose to do between classes and would like feedback/advice on in class.
What else do I need to know?
- Basic watercolour kit. A stiff board and masking tape and a water pot. Tutor can provide a materials list if required. Tutor can supply materials at SAA (Society of All Artists) members prices if required.
