This practical digital photography course is aimed at teaching beginners and improvers how to get the most out of their compact/bridge cameras. The course focusses on the technical side of digital photography and will include taking, saving, editing, sharing and printing photos. No Session 31/05/2018.

Course aim

To enable beginners/improvers in digital photography to capture(take), save, digitally edit, share and print their photographs. Includes internet security issues. Mainly intended for compact and bridge camera users.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use digital camera zoom, flash, shutter delay, menus and basic settings to capture photographs.
  • Transfer photographs to a computer for saving, editing, backing up (archiving), sharing and printing.
  • Understand how to manage memory cards, USB and CD/DVD devices.
  • Use digital photography editing software. Create photo collages.
  • Discuss Internet (email & cloud) services and related safety and security issues.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • You do not need a digital camera to do the course, but you are encouraged to bring your own camera if you are able to do so.
