Health and Wellbeing for the MS Association 2

This course is for anyone who has MS and could benefit from our health and well-being program. We will provide learners with new topical skills and information to use in their daily lives. We will cover a range of health and well-being topics including healthy eating, Tai Chi, Qigongs, relaxation, mindfulness and positivity. Every week we will do a range of gentle, chair based exercises to help improve circulation and movement, a segment of seated Tai Chi and we will end with a relaxation exercise.

Course aim

To provide a weekly health and well-being course for people who have MS, which includes; gentle, chair based exercise, Tai Chi, relaxation and segments on relevant topics.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • List ways to improve nutrition in your diet.
  • List 3 things to do everyday to make you happier.
  • Practice mindfulness techniques and explain their benefits.
  • Demonstrate some advanced moves of Tai Chi for Arthritis seated.
  • Demonstrate 4 new gentle exercises moves, which can help and improve circulation and movement.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Please wear flat shoes and comfortable clothes that are suitable to exercise in.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
