You will learn about some features of Microsoft Word that you can use to add more interest and detail to your documents. You will learn about making text stand out more using font styles and Word Art. You will learn how to insert shapes and pictures to give your document more visual impact. You will practice using different borders and themes to add colour. You will practice these skills during the session, and then design and produce a document of your own.

Course aim

This course is for people who want to expand their knowledge of Microsoft Word, using features to design more creative documents.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • To use Word Art to change the look of text
  • To insert, crop and adjust pictures
  • To insert and personalise shapes (change size, colour)
  • To design and create a document
  • To save and print a document

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • An idea of what kind of document you would like to produce during the course - e.g. an invitation, a poster, a favourite poem or saying.
