Music for All (with Guitar)

Come along and enjoy the music! This course aims to promote the idea that everyone is musical, we can all do it and appreciate it. The course also aims to develop key listening and performance skills. There will be group activities, including clapping along to rhythms and singing to popular styles of music.

Course aim

- To promote participation and community understanding of music - To explore and introduce the key principles of music: rhythm, melody and harmony

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Develop awareness of how music helps promote individual and community sense of well-being
  • Compose and perform a rhythm by clapping, tapping (or using a musical instrument)
  • Explore melody by singing or playing a phrase on a musical instrument
  • Listen to and evaluate a variety of different sounds and musical styles
  • Perform and imitate sounds through call and response activities

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • If you own a musical instrument you are welcome to bring it

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • are paying the standard fee or are on any of the qualifying benefits
