Improve your Computer and Writing Skills

This is a friendly writing course for both beginners and improvers. In each session the tutor will set a task to be completed using Microsoft Word. We will explore a variety of writing genres, for example: fiction, letters and simple Cinquain poetry. The tutor will circulate and support throughout.

Course aim

To encourage students to develop the skills to write, with confidence, on a computer.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Students should be writing at Entry level - able to write in sentences.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Write on a computer so meaning is clear.
  • Give and receive constructive comments to support the development of our writing - mine and that of my peers.
  • Use Microsoft Word to write a letter in the correct format.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

  • All materials will be provided
