Health and Wellbeing Course with MS Assoc

This course is for anyone who has MS and could benefit from our health and well-being program. We will provide learners with new topical skills and information to use in their daily lives. We will cover a range of topics including healthy eating, visualisation, Tai Chi, relaxation and yoga. Every week we will also do a range of gentle, chair based exercises to help improve circulation and movement, a segment of seated Tai Chi and we will end with a relaxation exercise.

Course aim

To provide a weekly health and well-being course for people who have MS, that includes, gentle chair based exercise, Tai Chi, relaxation and segments on visualisation, memory, healthy eating and yoga and more.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Perform Qigong relaxation exercises to improve well-being.
  • List ways yoga can be beneficial to your body and mind.
  • Summarise how using visualisation as an exercise tool can be beneficial.
  • Demonstrate the core moves from 'Tai Chi for Arthritis' seated.
  • Demonstrate four new gentle exercise moves, which can help improve circulation and movement.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Wear comfortable clothes, ready to do gentle exercise in.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
