The course will allow you to join in and experience a wide range of craft techniques, creative themes as well as artists movements. The group is welcoming and inclusive, allowing and catering for a wide range of interests and abilities. The sessions will also allow you to learn about sustainable materials and how recycling them is beneficial to the environment. This will also enable you to use your newfound skills to independently discover ways to recycle materials at home or in your community which will be a benefit to the environment as well as encouraging creative thinking and independent study in your own time.

Course aim

The aim of the course is to be creative with different craft and art techniques and to join in and have fun in a welcoming environment. We will look at recycling and up cycling and using materials to create art and craft pieces each week.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Successfully complete a number of craft and artistic themes and experience a variety of creative techniques.
  • Learn about specific artistic movements and influences in the every day.
  • Improve self confidence through regular attendance and participation
  • Reduce isolation, through regular attendance.
  • Learn about the environment and understand the benefits of recycling at home and in the communitiy

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
