Sewing - Intermediate Garment Making

You will learn to construct different seams suitable for different fabrics, hand sewn buttonholes, plackets and two piece cuffs etc. You will be guided by the tutor to create practical samples and build a portfolio of work for reference. You can also spend some time within each session working on your own garments to apply your new found skills with guidance from the tutor.

Course aim

This course is ideal if you want to advance your sewing skills to Intermediate level to extend your repertoire of garments to be made.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Gain confidence on the sewing machine
  • Work on individual project extending your skills and apply prior knowledge from previous projects
  • Learn a variety of new construction techniques as outlined in Course Information Sheet
  • Use a variety of different machine needles and machine feet appropriately

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • Basic sewing equipment will be provided but please bring your own if possible. Please bring in fabric and paper patterns for own sewing project
