Creative Writing - Beginners

This is a friendly creative writing course for both beginners and improvers. In each session the tutor will set a task and explore associated writing and planning techniques. The tutor will support you throughout the writing process.

Course aim

To encourage the writing of short fiction, poems and personal memoirs, working as part of a friendly and supportive group.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Students should be writing at Entry level - able to write at sentence level.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Write so meaning is clear - with clarity.
  • Give and receive constructive comments to enable my work to progress.
  • Experiment with writing simple unrhymed poetry - cinquains.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

  • All materials will be provided
