Writing Your Story

'Writing Your Story' is a fun one-day taster workshop for those who want to write their stories. No previous experience is needed just a desire to start writing. It will cover some of the basic themes of story writing including narrative and audience awareness. If you've got a strong desire to get your story down on paper then this could be for you. The tutor is an experienced writer and teacher and the day will be enjoyable and accessible.

Course aim

This taster will introduce some basic themes in writing your story in a fun and accessible way. If you want to start writing then this could be for you.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • start writing about my life with more confidence
  • recognise 2 different kinds of narrative
  • try out different types of writing

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • A pen and notebook or a laptop would be good.There will be a one hour lunch break. Students can either bring sandwiches or there are sandwich shops in Wellington. There will be no refreshments available at the venue after 12.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
