Mindful Meditation

Become a human being, not just a human doing! Take time to be in the moment and reconnect with yourself as you develop real life techniques that support a healthier mind, body and essence of self. The mind has a function as does the body but have they become disconnected? This course invites you to take new perspectives, identify old patterns and progress to a lighter, brighter you, using techniques that can soon be applied each and every day.

Course aim

To introduce techniques for awareness and development of focusing on the present moment, acknowledging and accepting: change, feelings, thoughts and bodily sensations.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • List 1-3 method(s) of meditation
  • State the name(s) and purpose(s) of 1-3 (yogic) functional minds
  • Name 1-5 stages of the yogic cycle of intellect

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing. Layers are good so that you can be warm/cool enough. If you have a blanket / large bath towel / similar, to cover yourself during the relaxation element please bring it along. A flask or bottle of water.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
