First Steps to Confidence (Kiddy)

The course involves learning about strategies to improve health and wellbeing and confidence. It is a pro-active course which involves groupwork, discussion tasks, learning through sharing experiences, looking at websites, apps and practical strategies to improve confidence.

Course aim

To enable learners to improve their own self esteem, self confidence and self belief. It aims to improve health and wellbeing by focussing on positive thinking and 5 Ways to Wellbeing.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify 1 situation where they lack self esteem and self confidence. Identify the barriers to their confidence
  • Identify 2 strategies to improve their confidence in the personal situation.
  • Identify 1 way of challenging negative thoughts and identify the benefits of challenging negative thoughts
  • Identify 2 benefits of dealing with stress positively
  • Identify the importance of setting 1 SMART goal to improve their self confidence

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • A folder and notepad

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
