This course will provide learners with new topical skills and information to use in their daily lives. We will cover a range of health and well-being topics each week, these Include; healthy eating, sleep, the benefits of exercise, and deep breathing techniques. Each week we will also do a range of gentle, chair based exercises to help improve circulation and movement and will finish with a relaxation activity. What we do each week will be tailored to suit the needs of the class.

This 'Get Out Stay Well' course is for people that have been recently discharged from hospital or use out patient services for a health condition or injury.

Course aim

The course is for any woman who could benefit from our ‘Get Out Stay Well’ program, with weekly gentle exercises, relaxation and time looking at personal well-being.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explain how a range of vitamins helps the body function optimally.
  • Explain why we need a good nights sleep and list ways we can get it.
  • Demonstrate deep breathing techniques that can aid relaxation.
  • Summarise the benefits of exercising.
  • Demonstrate three gentle, chair based exercises, which can improve circulation and movement.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Wear comfortable clothes that you are happy to do gentle exercise in. Bring glasses if you need them to complete paper work.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
