Students will have the opportunity to try a number of different craft activities including pottery using air dried clay, glass painting, painting on fabric, ie. T shirts/tablecloths/cushions/a scarf, painting on tile to make a set of coffee coasters etc. There will also be the chance to make some art using watercolours and a range of other media. Most materials will be provided and students will be encouraged and supported by a friendly, experienced tutor. The classes will be informal and fun but also focussed very much on making. This course is open to non residents as well as residents but places must be booked in advance by contacting the WEA.

Students must be over 50 and Telford & Wrekin residents. Students can only do ONE free WEA course

Course aim

This course gives students the opportunity to try a range of art and craft activities and to make some beautiful objects to keep or to give as gifts.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Decorate a fabric object using fabric paints
  • Create an object using air dried clay
  • Decorate at least one tile

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
