Improve Your IT and English

You will be learning basic keyboard skills and using Microsoft office applications to word process documents. Individuals will also have opportunity to practise their basic English reading and writing skills and learn IT vocabulary.

Course aim

To provide an introduction to using a computer and learning English. To motivate students to improve their general computer skills and basic English in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use the keyboard and type 4 sentences.
  • Learn 10 IT related words or phrases
  • Read, edit and format text using 3 different icons on the tool bar.
  • Save and print my work on 2 occasions.
  • Open and close documents on 2 occasions.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Students are required to bring a pen, notebook and folder to class. WEA will provide course hand-outs, information sheets and computers to use in class.
