Body Condition and Strength

This course will help people who wish to become fitter, stronger, more flexible and more mobile. It will help to improve posture, breathing, balance and coordination as well as mental agility. We have fun in the classes too. The exercises help you to interact with your classmates and aims to help you to enjoy life.

To increase fitness levels

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • Adults who have a desire to become fitter and healthier, to enhance wellbeing.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand how to improve muscle strength and flexibility, core stability and general wellbeing. Stand, sit, stretch and breathe more easily.
  • Undertake a range of exercises with classmates and use the exercises to improve my wellbeing when at home, alone or when interacting with family and friends.
  • See improvements to my own fitness levels.
  • Interact and engage with others.
  • Understand five ways to wellbeing.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • a. Comfortable clothing should be worn and appropriate footwear for exercising. b. Bring a drink with you. c. Keep any paperwork in a folder and bring a pen. d. Be punctual. If possible, don't miss the warm up! e. Have fun.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • Web/library for information on 5 ways to wellbeing. Make notes of any useful information provided by the tutor.

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
  • Other health and fitness courses or activities.
