During this course students will paint directly onto wood in order to create indoor wooden artwork. Students will also plan and then create a set of themed decoupage coasters. Finally, students will use air dry clay to create items which they will then decorate. This course is suitable for beginners or for those who wish to improve upon and develop current craft skills.

Course aim

This is a course for those who enjoy all aspects of art and craft and wish to learn, and/or develop further a variety of craft skills in a friendly, encouraging environment.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre
  • Students need a basic level of spoken English in order to clearly understand any craft instructions/advice.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Select/create a design and paint directly onto wood in order to produce indoor decorative art
  • Design and then create a set of themed coasters using decoupage
  • Plan and then create and decorate objects made using air dry clay

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Craft skills learnt in the classroom can be replicated/developed in the home environment for personal enjoyment and relaxation.
