A day visit to some medieval monastic sites and churches in South Shropshire

Course aim

This will be a visit to some medieval monastic sites in Shropshire. It will follow the lecture and visit in C3125367.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Have a greater understanding of the history and archaeology of medieval monastic sites
  • Have a greater understanding of the architecture of churches and monasteries of the Welsh Border
  • Be able to recognise some of the features of medieval architecture that relate to churches and monastic sites
  • Have a greater understanding of what has happened to the churches and monasteries of the Welsh Border since the Dissolution of the Monasteries

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Clothing and footwear suitable for visiting rural church sites in March

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
