Abbeys and Priories of the Welsh Borders

Ref: C3125367

An introductory lecture will be followed by two day visits to explore what remains of some of the monastery churches in the Herefordshire and South Shropshire areas of the Welsh Border. Abbeys and Priories were a very important presence in medieval England but following the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 1530s only fragments of many monasteries survive. We will look at some of the important remaining features, several of which are incorporated in parish churches or other buildings.
