The Life and Films of Marlene Dietrich

Ref: C3125344

Marlene Dietrich was one of the most famous film stars of the 1930s. She made the transition from Germany to Hollywood along with her long-time collaborator, the director Josef von Sternberg. Paramount Studios marketed Dietrich as a rival to MGM’s Greta Garbo. The day will start with a talk about her star persona and distinctive style and the special lighting system developed for her Lee Garmes. This will be followed by a double bill of film screenings, beginning with Blonde Venus (Josef von Sternberg 1932) and ending with the comedy Western Destry Rides Again (George Marshall1939). Notes: Refreshments and sandwiches are available at the theatre. In collaboration with Ledbury Film Club
