Music Making for Beginners

The aim of the course is to encourage service users to actively participate in a safe and inclusive environment. Service users can select song choices and sign sing and sing to accompany well know and popular songs. There is also a focus on recycling and up cycling. There will be an opportunity to make and use recycled and hand made percussion and instruments and discover the rhythm and sound of different styles of music.

Course aim

The aim of the course is to allow service users to attend sessions and join in with singing and simple percussion. Some service users will choose to join the WEA Queens Cross Choir and perform seasonal songs to the centre.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • To reduce isolation, through regular attendance
  • To improve self confidence through regular attendance and participation in the sessions
  • To enjoy and have fun through regular attendance
  • Learn about the environment, make and use instruments from recycled and up cycled items.
  • To improve self confidence through choir rehearsals and performances.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
