Yoga - Taster

Listening to your body and working within your capabilities, you will be guided through the development of the breath. The latter will be the primary tool, which will enable you to practise a selection of standing, seated and lying Yoga postures, with modifications where appropriate, culminating with relaxation and thus the enhancement of your personal well-being.

Course aim

The taster course will introduce students with to skills involved in the practice Yoga postures, breathing and relaxation techniques in order to promote a sense of well-being.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Monitor my breath and practise one breathing technique
  • Practise one standing Yoga posture in a safe manner
  • Practise one seated Yoga posture in a safe manner
  • Practise one lying Yoga posture in a safe manner

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • Verbal feedback will be provided and discussed with students as to their progress, and where appropriate additional guidance, with the objective of enhancing the students' practice of Yoga.

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • Comfortable loose fitting clothing is advised and also avoid eating a meal at least two hours prior to attending the class.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Students should be able to enrol on a Yoga course of longer duration, with the aim of developing their skills and enhancing their well being.
