This course enables learners to learn how to cook different dishes from around the world. Fresh ingredients are carefully selected and dishes are prepared in a friendly environment, keeping in mind all the health and safety issues. Discussions are made throughout the sessions about how to introduce healthier options and learn health benefits of various spices and ingredients. Learners who have been in this course previously have discussed and shared how they feel healthier after introducing fresh food and various spices in their diet.

Course aim

Learners will be able to learn and feel confident in making a wide variety of dishes from around the world. Health benefits of various ingredients are discussed throughout the sessions.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • List how you can disinfect knives and chopping boards in the house
  • Memorise the procedure of making Rajmah (red kidney bean curry)
  • State the temperature at which raw meat should be stored.
  • Identify the health benefits of at least four ingredients.
  • Summarise the benefits of cooking fresh food

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
