Meet and Eat - Cookery

This is a 11 week course where learners will cook a main meal and a desert within a team and share the meal at a sitting afterwards. Learners will have the opportunity to learn various cooking skills, such as baking and the safe use of knife skills as well as basic food hygiene. Skill such as boiling, frying , steaming, baking , grilling,shirring and roasting.

Course aim

This course is an introduction to the principles of simple healthy cooking on a budget with a view to applying them in your own home

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Cooking and baking skills
  • Chopping skills
  • Knowledge of different methods of cooking
  • Hygiene in the kitchen
  • Familiar with all kinds of foods

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • Recipes will be provided by tutor to aid learners to practice at home

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • Aprons and tea towels if you prefer to use your own

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
