How much do you know about desktop publishing? Do you want to learn more about computer aided design, page layout, typography, graphics, prepress, and printing? This course will show you how to create your own documents and improve your computer skills.

Course aim

To teach students how to create and adapt documents for a range of different uses. Using Word and Publisher to write formal letters, and to make cards, calendars and posters.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Recognise the safe use of the internet for research
  • Create a table using MS Word and discuss its uses
  • Give three examples of some of the uses of desktop publishing.
  • Plan and produce at least three cards for a celebration, using MS Publisher.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • it would be helpful, if students purchased a basic flash drive onto which they can save their work.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
