This course aims to teach you how to make healthy food choices with the aim to lose weight and improve your health and the health of your family. We will be making healthy recipes for the summer-time.

Course aim

To teach students how to make healthy food choices and recipes with the aim to lose weight and improve their diet with a focus on summer-time food.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstrate at least three kitchen skills used to cook low fat meals for the summer.
  • Identify healthy food swaps that will help lose weight at home.
  • Read and follow at least 3 summer time recipes
  • Give examples of how to set targets to lose weight

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • Each week we will make a dish following a recipe. The completed dishes are taken home to eat with the family

What else do I need to know?

  • Students will need an apron and food containers to take the food they make home. The cost of ingredients will also have to be met by the students and this will be approximately £3 - 4 per session.
