There will be a range of activities where you will be able to create an individual item/items or work within a group to explore the many projects that can be created using a variety of material be it wool, fabric, china or buttons Trending at the moment are various designs using pompoms to make floor rugs or trim cushion. This course will enable you to be creative and practical and express your own personnel style as you develop your confidence and expand on the wide range within the Crafts umbrella

Course aim

Explore ideas and ways to provide the skills and techniques needed to craft an individual or group project to enhance the wellbeing and health of the individual and the group using a variety of textiles.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • working as a group exploring diverse styles and cultures
  • using these skills on an individual project
  • source different projects from various craft and recycling sites with benefits to the environment and community
  • meditation through craft helping with health and well being
  • save money reuse and recycle don't waste

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • we will use the class Ipad to photograph and map the progress of projects with a small video created for the end of the session which we will be able to share

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • If you don't have a use for it someone else could so the more resources we have to share the more creative we can be

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • but you can come with ideas to share or maybe something interesting and beneficial to the group

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • become more proactive in the home sharing ideas and skills with family and friends
