If you love traditional UK food then this course is for you. We will learn how to make some of the more well known summer dishes from picnic and bbq's to Victoria sponges. This course is perfect for learning traditional UK regional recipes to eat in the summertime.

Course aim

To teach students how to make healthy food choices and recipes focussing on traditional UK recipes to make for summer.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstrate at least three kitchen skills used to create healthy meals.
  • Recognise and use at least 3 traditional summer ingredients
  • Read and follow at least three recipes to make traditional summer dishes.
  • Demonstrate how to prepare food hygienically and safely

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • Each week we make a different recipe and you may be asked to research a particular ingredient or recipe at home

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Students will need an apron and food containers to take the food they make home. The cost of ingredients will also have to be met by the students and this will be no more than £3.00 - £4.00 per session.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • If students have relevent recipe books, they could look through these and discuss any recipes they would like make during the course.
