Fun with Numbers!

The course is designed to improve your confidence using numbers in a variety of fun activities as opposed to worksheets! It is unlike your typical maths course - the learning will involve practical activities to promote and develop learning. Learners will work in small groups and on their own. It aims to chase away the fears of maths.

Course aim

The emphasis is upon having fun using numbers to develop existing maths skills. The course aims to boost the learners' confidence using numbers in various situations in daily life

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use a calculator to solve problems
  • Recognise simple fractions and percentages and understand their relevance to everyday life
  • Collect data and present information to others in a clear format
  • Use the metric system in everyday situations - weighing & measuring
  • Learn to budget - feel confident using money

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
