The course will teach you dance phrases in contemporary dance. They will be put together to create a short piece of choreography for performance at Northern Stage on March 31st

Course aim

The course will provide the basic techniques in Contemporary dance, whilst learning movement phrases. The culmination will be performed at Northern Stage on 31st March.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Perform a set phrase of movement with others
  • Develop a set phrase of movement
  • Understand some basic performance skills
  • Perform set phrases to music
  • Understand the rehearsal process to put on a performance

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Please wear appropriate clothing so you can move comfortably. Leggings, jogging bottoms, vests and tshirts are all great. You will be asked to dance in bare feet and you will need to bring some water to drink.
