The course will enable participants to follow the business strategic planning cycle of Goals - where do we want to go?,Desired Outcomes - How do we get there?,Measures & Targets , Strategies - How do we measure success?,Results - How do we do and how can we improve? through delivery of the below four core modules: 1. What is a business plan? 2. Why a business plan is needed? 3. How to understand individual business market place and customers. 4. How to carry out business financial planning.

Course aim

The aim of the course is to enable participants to produce a document that sets out their plans and show that the plans can be achieved.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Students need a Level 1 qualification in English to join this course
  • Students need a level 2 qualification in English to join this course
  • This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Describe my business plans
  • Understand my market reaserch
  • Describe my product/service
  • Understand my marketing strategy
  • Understand how to carry out basic financial planning

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
