Computers for Beginners and Improvers

Learners will explore the World Wide Web, create an E-mail account to compose messages to friends and family. Learners will connect with other members of the group using Skype, putting their newly discovered skills into practice.

Course aim

During this course, learners will develop and therefore enhance their skills in subjects such as Internet & E-mail and Microsoft Word. They will work at their own pace, with no pressure to finish tasks within a specified time.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use Solitaire to refresh/ improve my mouse co-ordination (Initial Assessment)
  • Open/ close the Internet Explorer software (Internet Browser)
  • Send and receive E-mails
  • Surf the World Wide Web
  • Converse using the Skype software either within the group or family members

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • Your own laptop (if available) Notepad & pen Laptops are also provided by venue)

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed

  • are paying the standard fee or are on any of the qualifying benefits
