Indian Cooking

Indian cuisine is amongst the most vibrant and varied in the world, and one of the most popular of foods in the UK. Throughout this course our tutor will teach you how to work with fresh ingredients, herbs and spices to create Indian starters, curries, main dishes and accompaniments that truly reflect the spirit of Indian cuisine and that can easily be replicated in the home.

Course aim

Students will learn or develop further knowledge about Indian cooking, using spices and healthier options. Dishes are carefully selected to enable learners to feel confident in making them.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify 5 spice powders used in Indian Cookery.
  • Memorise the procedure of making Rendang curry.
  • Produce at least three Indian dishes.
  • Identify the health benefits of at least three Indian ingredients.
  • Summarise the benefits of cooking fresh food.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
