We provide basic sewing machines and an overlooked to enable a range of individual projects to be professional finished all you need is your own material and the desire to learn about all the lovely projects you can make once you know the basics. You will be inspired and inspire each other with the diversity and range of projects that can be achieved

Course aim

To provide skills and knowledge to enable students to accomplish professional finished garments using an overlocker either for themselves and their families or within their community

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Gain indepth knowledge of garment construction
  • Able to confidently cut out a garment using a paper pattern
  • Able to fit a garment, alter width and lengths add darts and zip
  • Complete a garment using a sewing machine and finished off professionally using an overlocker
  • Follow all health and safety regulations when working with machinery and equipment

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
