The course is for Intermediate and those have an interest in Spanish culture. There will be plenty of opportunities to practice different scenarios a restaurant ordering foods and learning about local ingredients. The course is ideal for those planning a holiday to Spain or South America and also those who are keen to build on their Spanish, one of the most widely spoken languages in the world Will also look at current issues like the mediterranean diet and health benefits or acquiring a place in the sun.

Course aim

The course will provide Intermediate Conversational skills to communicate in Spanish. It will enable you to have a more enjoyable experience whilst visiting Spain and develop a more profound knowledge of the Spanish speaking world..

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • Students must have a bit of Spanish Knowledge

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Make five sentences in the future tense
  • Speak clearly and use construct 5 sentences in the past tense - use these with class members
  • Identify 5 key points about the Mediterranean diet - share this information with class members
  • Order food and drink using first person, second person, present and perfect tense
  • Identify an emergency contact number, speak clearly to convey 5 essential phrases to use in an emergency situation

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time
  • There will be pair or group work also.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress
  • There will be chances to perform small dialogues

What else do I need to know?

  • A dictionary is necessary it can be electronic or paper

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • Try and read some of events happening in the Spanish speaking world
