This course is aimed at learning the ‘must know’ requirements that ‘every artist must know’. You are taught strategies that will help you achieve your goals, in a way that is accessible and the gives you control over your drawing and painting skills.

Course aim

To develop the essential skills required to create drawings and painting, including developing your confidence

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • this course is for anyone wanting to develop and improve their drawing and painting skills, regardless of ability.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Develop problem solving skills when painting
  • Developing colour mixing skills
  • Demonstrate drawing and painting with a more positive, methodical attitude
  • Plan and prepare an artwork using sketches and studies
  • Interpret a subject when creating a painting

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be required to do additional work at home, if you are absent at any point

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • you will be required to supply your own materials - recommended materials are discussed at the start of the course.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • You will be given suggested sources of information specific to your own personal goals throughout the course.

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Learners usually end up returning to the same course the following term, to learn eve n more about drawing and painting!
