Learn a variety of dance routines from rock and roll, rumba, waltz, disco, salsa, tango, etc. Understand the terminology of arm and hand techniques, body styling and foot movements. Low impact, high energy aerobic exercise in a fun packed relaxed atmosphere. You will be guided through the key steps before dancing each routine, so you’ll start learning and developing your technique right away.

Course aim

Sosa Dance Fitness for women. Learn and develop a variety of dance routines including rumba, salsa, waltz etc.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstrate a basic dance routine
  • Understand 5 key terms linked to a dance routine
  • Understand different dance styles
  • Develop and understand the importance of co-ordination, hand and arm movement and foot movement.
  • Discover the many dance styles of ballroom has to offer, and international dance steps.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • The students will be taught together as a group and will be given verbal and visual instructions, on how to perform a particular movement or steps. Students will be encouraged and supported throughout the demonstration of the dance routines.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You are free to ask questions about anything to do with the dance routine to help to understand the method of the dance steps and movements of the dance style.

What else do I need to know?

  • You will need to bring bottled water or a water bottle. You will need to wear flat comfortable non-slip shoes or trainers. You will need to wear loose comfortable clothes.
