Xmas Cake Decoration

This course will provide a brief introduction to cake decoration with a view to creating a fully decorated christmas cake. The learners will crumb coat a cake and understand the reasons for doing this. Learners will then cover the cake correctly with fondant icing. After covering the cakes with fondant icing the cakes will be left to set. The students will learn how to make sugarcraft models using fondant modelling paste.

Course aim

To provide a brieif introduction to cake decoration, with a view to creating a fully decorated christmas cake

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Crumb coat a cake and understand the reasons for doing this
  • Cover a cake correctly with fondant icing
  • Use fondant modelling to create models for the decoration on the top of the cake
  • Describe the use of sugarcraft tools for modelling figures
  • Describe the basic principals of food hygiene for use in cake decorating

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • A list of equipment that you will need will be given to you at the first session, this will be a very basic list of everything needed,
