This course looks at Christmas and festival food from home and abroad and gives you the opportunity to try and cook new recipes of traditional festive food and to cook ahead for Christmas.

Course aim

This course begins by making Christmas and other festival recipes from countries around the world and then moves onto traditional British Christmas recipes for you to make ahead of the festive period.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstrate at least three kitchen skills such as chopping, mixing and rubbing in.
  • Read and follow at least three recipes to make traditional Christmas dishes.
  • List four ingredients associated with Christmas.
  • Identify the Christmas food cooked in at least two different countries.
  • Demonstrate how to prepare food hygienically and safely

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Students will need an apron, baking tins and food containers to take the food they make home. The cost of ingredients will also have to be met by the students and this will be approximately £3 - 4 per session.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • If students have relevent recipe books, they could look through these and discuss any recipes they would like make during the course.
