Listening to your body and working within your capabilities, you will be guided through the development of the breath. The latter will be the primary tool, which will enable you to practise a range of standing, seated and lying Yoga postures, with modifications where appropriate, culminating with relaxation and thus the enhancement of your personal well-being.

Course aim

The course will provide students with the necessary skills to practice Yoga postures, breathing and relaxation techniques in order to promote a sense of well-being.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Name eight Yoga postures
  • Practise four standing Yoga postures in a safe manner
  • Practise three seated Yoga postures in a safe manner
  • Practise one inverted Yoga posture in a safe manner
  • Practise two breathing technique

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • Students will be guided towards developing a Yoga practice between classes.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • Verbal feedback will be provided and discussed with students as to their progress, and where appropriate additional guidance, with the objective of enhancing the students' practice of Yoga.

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • Comfortable loose fitting clothing is advised and also avoid eating a meal at least two hours prior to attending the class.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Students should be able to progress to further Yoga courses and develop a personal practice to meet their specific needs, with guidance on sources which may be used to enhance their knowledge of the subject.
