History

Life in the Victorian North East was both hard and rewarding. The North East was at the centre of an industrial revolution as well as being the hotbed of political radicalism, cultural change and economic progress. This course will look at the decade of the 1860's in the North East to explore what life was like in those years using primary and secondary historical sources and to use the 1960's as a comparative decade. Sex, drugs and rock and roll - the 1860's or the 1960's?

Course aim

To explore the local history of the North East through the use of primary and secondary historical sources using the 1860's as a reference decade and to compare it with life in the 1960's.
