The Course aims to encourage individual creativity as students work at their own pace - developing observational skills and improving hand and eye co - ordination with still life work . Other media are such as watercolours, acrylics and oil paints, soft and oil pastels and chalks , charcoal and drawing inks are included in the art topics that students choose to work on . There will also be quick exercises to encourage creative skills

Course aim

The Course is for both beginners and experienced students to develop an interest in art and art subjects - with practical guided sessions to develop observational , drawing and painting skills

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Students do not need any qualifications to join the Course - just an interest and curiosity in art, art materials and techniques

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • - Compose a lay out for drawings and paintings in different media such as pencil-graphite -watercolour-oil and acrylic paints
  • - Draw a 'still life' and landscape with pencil and brush work
  • - Identify with a variety of media - charcoal/pencil / pastel/acrylics and oil paints / watercolour and mixed media
  • - Identify with colour and texture in art work - the affects and how to achieve them for tone /3D effects / chiaroscuro
  • -Identify with at least 3 Artists and Art Movements - here and in other Countries

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • Students work at their own pace at the topic to develop their own creativity and it may be relevant to continue work in their own time. This work can be brought in and discussed with the tutor

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Students are expected to bring in their own art materials and equipment , although additional materials will be available - brought in by the tutor

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
