Acrylic and Watercolour Landscapes

The tutor will demonstrate various aspects of the painted landscape- covering areas such as skies,trees,water, etc. With development of tone, form and colour mixing. With 1 to 1 tuition from the tutor the student can build up their own version of the landscape. The mediums used will be watercolour and acrylic.

Course aim

To provide an introduction to the principals and techniques of landscape painting. to improve the students understanding, colour mixing and brush handling.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Produce a pencil/charcoal sketch
  • Create form - use of colour to create shape
  • Create depth - distance,middle, foreground
  • identify and mix colour
  • Improve colour mixing

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • Your work will be informally assessed as the tutor visits each student on a one to one basis. Giving you feedback on your progress,giving suggestions and answering questions. Completion of an Individual Learning Plan.

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equiptment will be provided but students are expected to aquire some materials. A list of basic materials will be given at the first class.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • There is no reading that is essentialbut but it will help to read other art books as it will further your ability.

  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
