The word Yoga means union of the body, mind and spirit. Hatha Yoga comprises of physical movements that work every area of the body. This is combined with balancing postures, focused breathing and mindful relaxation. All these work together to help the body into its optimal physical state leaving the mind clear and relaxed helping the students achieve their own unique potential.

Course aim

To have a working knowledge of Hatha Yoga and the health benefits this brings.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • 1. To identify and name or demonstrate one seated Asana (posture / pose)
  • 2. To identify and name or demonstrate one standing balance Asana (posture / pose)
  • 3. To identify and name or demonstrate one inverted Asana (posture / pose)
  • 4. To identify and name or demonstrate one breathing / Pranayama practise
  • Students work within their own range of movements and every learner's learning outcome will be different. All learners should have a working knowledge of a range of Asanas, breathing practises and Mindful relaxation practises.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • You will need to dress in comfortable clothing that is suitable for Yoga practice. Mats and Yoga equipment are provided.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Join the British Wheel of Yoga. Attend other local Yoga courses.
