Mindfulness; An Introduction

This course will help individuals to focus on the present rather than dwell on the past or worry about the future. It is helpful for those suffering from stress or anxiety. The course will give participants an understanding of the history and benefits of mindfulness. Attendees will practice mindfulness using a range of techniques.

Course aim

This course is suitable for those wishing to focus on the present to help them manage stress and anxiety.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explain the benefits of practicing mindfulness
  • Discuss the history of mindfulness
  • Practice mindful breathing
  • Use all five senses in mindful practice
  • Participate in mindful listening

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • A blanket and cushion/pillow for one exercise
