Yoga is an amazing way to bring balance to the mind and body. It improves your strength and flexibility and is great way to relax and de stress. This Yoga course is a comprehensive introduction to the underlying principles of Hatha Yoga - the root of most yoga styles practiced in the west. You will learn a variety of preliminary exercises to prepare the body for practice, plus receive a well-balance introduction to Yoga Asanas (postures) and Pranayama (breath work). There will be a strong focus on meditation throughout the course, which we will practice at the start and end of each class. This course is designed specifically to provide you with a strong and stable introduction to yoga practice that will inspire you to sustain a regular yoga practice . Perfect for complete yoga beginners, students with less than a year's yoga practice or existing students who wish to deepen and further their knowledge and understanding of Hatha Yoga.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Practice meditation
  • Learn and practice Pranayama ( breathwork)
  • Learn and Practice a variety of Asanas ( postures)
  • Be aware of the historical roots of yoga and its health benefits

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • Please wear clothes that are comfortable and allow free movement

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
