During this course you will learn how to perform the traditional steps used for belly dance to improve fitness and well being. explore dance combinations dance enhance muscle tone and strength, as well as the drum rhythms used in this dance style. You will learn the dance styles from varoius middle eastern countries and work on specific routine. certain basic moves will be introduced

Course aim

This traditional belly dance for fitness is a fun way to get fit and improve well being .study of the traditional music and movement

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for people with little spoken English

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • stand holding good posture
  • hip drops in various positions
  • use of arms to enhance dance
  • muscle tone and flexibility
  • basic drum rhythms suitable for dance routine

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • A bottle of water, clothes that you feel comfortable with and you can move easily in and be prepared to dance bare feet or wearing socks or very soft shoes. A scarf to tie around your hips.
